CoronaVirus Statement

We would like to update you regarding our current activities. As we do so further announcements are being made by government and advisors. We anticipate that this situation will remain fluid for a few days yet.

The Place Theatre building will remain open for the time being, but we have taken the decision to postpone indefinitely or cancel all of our professional shows and live events between today and the end of May. Whilst these shows have been postponed, we have not yet been informed of the situation regarding shows or events organised by community groups or people hiring our spaces due to be staged this month and in April. In lieu of direct advice from the government we are working with our hirers to support them to make these decisions. These, along with many of the other activities hosted at the Place are due to continue for the foreseeable future, or until we are advised otherwise by the event organisers, or receive further direct instructions from government.

As you can imagine this is a fluid situation and we would ask you to check the website or social media for the latest information. As we look ahead it is currently unlikely that any shows or events will go ahead in May and we are anticipating postponing indefinitely those performances as well. As of right now we have not confirmed a decision for dates that far ahead.
We are looking this far ahead for a number of reasons, firstly we believe the scientists who predict that the peak of this current situation will be with us well into June. We want to provide a degree of stability and clear decision making to our audiences, communities and artists who come through our doors. We care for your health and wellbeing as much as that of our staff and volunteers. Decisive action at this moment will allow us to re-purpose our energy and resources into helping ensure that there will be something for us all to come back together for down the line. Once the current confusion and paralysis are over and we have adapted to whatever the new normal may be we want to be ready to face that. There will always be a need, demand and appetite for the type of live experiences that we provide here at The Place Bedford, and we want to make sure that there continues to be a place for it to return to when the dust settles.

As you can imagine this is a truly uncertain and difficult time for all of us at the Theatre. We would ask you to consider making a donation to sustain this valuable community asset and the people who keep it over the coming months. You can do this by going to our website www.theplacebedford.org.uk, click on ‘buy tickets’ and you will see a donations button on the header menu. Your support in these times could make all the difference for our small team in the next few months. If you feel able to donate please do.

If you are someone who has purchased tickets for future shows you will receive a separate email from the box office. If for some reason you do not hear from us within the next few days, please contact us.
