The Place Bedford are excited to continue working with Mark Hales and his wonderful team of talented musicians to bring Jazz music gigs back to the venue from September.
‘All That Jazz’ is a new Concert series presented by The Place curated by Drummer Mark Hale.
The series will feature a variety of music talent from across the country coming together for a night of exquisite live music!
To kick things off, on September 16th Mark will lead an Organ Trio featuring the talents of Tobie Carpenter on Guitar, David Ferris on Hammond Organ and Mark Hale on Drums.
The music shall be a selection of originals & Jazz standards hand picked by Tobie, Dave & Mark. An evening not to be missed!
About the musicians:
Tobie Carpenter is a highly celebrated and sought after Jazz Guitarist and Composer based in London. His debut album Dead Pan Party (Turquoise Coconut Records) topped the iTunes Jazz Album Chart in 2017 receiving critical acclaim in the UK and USA. Since 2018 Tobie has been recording and touring extensively with Daniel Casimir & Tess Hirst (Jazz Re:freshed) the group was described as “evidence the UK Jazz scene is on fire right now…Five Stars” (Evening Standard) and featured on Quincy Jones’s Qwest TV Contemporary Jazz Acts 2020. Tobie has performed at iconic venues including Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, Royal Albert Hall, Jazz Cafe, and Abbey Road in the UK, as well as touring throughout Europe and the USA, at Club Bonafide (New York) B-Flat (Berlin) and SXSW Festival (Texas). Tobie’s career includes recordings and performances with great musicians including Alice Zawadzki, Claire Martin, Binker Golding, Nadim Teimoori, Sam Leak, Robert Mitchell, Joe Armon-Jones, Percy Purseglove, Peter Ind, Moses Boyd, amongst many others. Tobie is a regular member of the Chris Maddock Quartet, set to release a debut record after recent shows at Ronnie Scott’s late late show, Birmingham Symphony Hall and Southbank Centre. A follow up Tobie Carpenter Organ Trio Album is in the works.
David Ferris is a pianist based in London, active as both a bandleader and sideman on the jazz scene. He graduated from the Birmingham Conservatoire in 2015, and was taught by musicians including Mark Turner, Dave Holland and John Taylor. David was the recipient of the 2016 Help Musicians UK Development Award, which led to the release of his septet’s critically acclaimed debut album, Alphabets, in February 2018. The album was toured with Arts Council support across the country. Also a teacher and composer, the second septet album featuring master guitarist Peter Bernstein is due to be recorded as soon as circumstances allow!
