StageWrite is a hothouse for the development of new writing for theatre, designed to help plays grow from page to performance. It supports writers in the process of getting their work up on its feet and in front of an audience for the very first time. We present two plays as works-in-progress over the course of one evening, performed by professional actors, and include a short Q&A session after each piece to allow the audience to give feedback and the writers to discover more about how their work is received.
On Sunday 17th September 2023 we present:
Heyday by Adam Francis
Three call handlers, working for the Department for Words and Thoughts, are oblivious to the fact that creative, original ideas are coming to an end. They are about to take their last calls. Then what? What happens when there are no more inspiring ideas out there? What do we do then? This brilliant dark comedy by local writer Adam Francis, who returns to work with us again for our first StageWrite Rewinder, is not to be missed.
Bittersweet/Normal by Sam Potter
By turns funny and moving, this play tells the story of Siobhan and Ollie, who meet on a blind date and fall in love, and follows the evolution of their relationship as they navigate the various challenges life has to throw at them. Structured as a series of vignettes, the piece is carried along by Sam Potter’s sharp, witty dialogue, making it a truly compelling and absorbing narrative right to the end.
Please note: both plays contain some strong language. Suggested age suitability 16+
