StageWrite is a hothouse for the development of new writing for theatre, designed to help plays grow from page to performance. It supports writers in the process of getting their work up on its feet and in front of an audience for the very first time.

Plays are performed script in hand to allow for a more developed experience than a rehearsed reading (where actors simply read the play out loud).

StageWrite presents two plays over the course of one evening, performed by professional actors, and includes a short Q&A session after each piece to allow the audience to give feedback and the writers to discover more about how their work is received.  Every time StageWrite happens, it’s different – the nature of profiling brand new work!  Follow us on Instagram (lifeboxtheatre) and Twitter (@lifeboxtheatre) for updates.

Shows for Spring 2023:

Bainis by Jack Gallagher.

On the morning of Adam’s wedding to Nadine, family and friends are getting ready. Adam’s parents are trying unsuccessfully to hide something from him; Kevin can’t remember his best man’s speech, and Nadine isn’t exactly panicking – she’s carrying out a ‘rational assessment’ of why she should/should not go ahead with getting married. All par for the course…right?

Crime Partners In. by Libby Waters.

S is fun. Sociable and charming. She dreams of being a writer and found this job through a newspaper advert. For L, this seemed like a job that was sure to liven up the dinner table conversation with her partner of 7 years. She’s bored, but no one can say she’s not loyal. And the job? Cleaning up the scene of a ‘crime’…sort of. This gently humorous piece, a study of the firm friendship between S and L, keeps us guessing as it unfolds.
