“When you’re between any kind of devil and the deep blue sea, the deep blue sea sometimes looks very inviting.”
The lives of the residents of a small unfashionable West London townhouse are thrown into turmoil, over the course of a single day, in the aftermath of a failed suicide attempt.
Suspended at the centre, Hester Collyer, caught between a tempestuous affair with a former RAF pilot and her estranged High Court judge husband, paints a portrait of passionate longing, solitude & need, against a backdrop of post-war social structures.
As the veneer begins to peel, a new inner landscape is uncovered, tinted with melancholy & muted hope.
“To love with one’s eyes open sometimes makes life very difficult.”
