Since it opened in 2003, The Place Bedford has developed a reputation among local audiences as one of the best places to see high-quality and cutting-edge professional theatre, as well as being the home of Bedford’s best amateur and community-led theatre companies.

A year round programme of theatre, music and film presenting a varied cross-section of work for everyone in the community: spanning children’s theatre, music, musical theatre, comedy, as well as our core contemporary drama programme.

We are dedicated to bringing the highest quality small-scale professional work to Bedford, and increasing the representation of diverse voices and experiences on the stage in Bedford.

As well as performance based activities, we are a hub for local community groups, with over 17 local groups offering activities, workshops and classes from our venue.

Here are just a selection of the activities you can get involved in here at The Place:

Death Cafe – Monthly, free group meet up offering an open, safe and confidential space to discuss anything in relation to death

Menopause Group – this group is open to everyone, including those who are in perimenopause, menopause, post-menopause or anyone who is interested in learning more about these phases of life.

Access Bedford – this local deaf-led charity works with the D/deaf and hard of hearing community to make Bedford more accessible, to break down barriers and reduce isolation. Join Deaf Access Bedford for their regular Friday coffee mornings and other events.

Creative Days – Encourages and develops creativity in children through weekly art and craft workshops.

Lindy Lou’s Bedford – Parents and babies enjoy an active session learning through play, meeting and bonding with others. Sessions every Tuesday and Wednesday.

Julie Crawford Pilates – Weekly sessions on a Monday evening.

Bedford Boardgamers – Every Wednesday evening this adult board game group offers a place to meet and bond over board games.

We are also home to some of Bedford’s most well known community theatre groups including Bedford Drama Company,   Swan Theatre Company, and Certain Age.

There really is something for everyone at The Place and we’re keen to share it with you. Our Place is Your Place.
