Colours of a Woman’s Love (Ma̅) is Debbie’s journey of self-exploration. What began as a study of the ancient archetypes of the Ashta Nayikas – the eight heroines of classical Indian dance – has evolved into a bold, emotional, and powerful work, sharing Debbie’s experience of love and loss as both a daughter and a mother, presented through a contemporary lens. Led by Debbie Ganguli-Patel, with additional choreography from Divya Kasturi and original music created in collaboration with Prathap Ramachandra and Vijay Venkat, the work explores the emotional landscapes of a modern woman navigating life, love, and loss.

Rooted in Bharatanatyam yet infused with fresh perspectives, the piece blends tradition and innovation to create a deeply personal exploration of the dancer’s lived experience. In this first instalment of the work-in-progress, Debbie shares a tribute to her late mother. The evening opens with vibrant curtain-raisers from Brave Youth Theatre and Satyam Dance, showcasing the next generation of early-career artists. Following the sharing, audiences are invited to take part in a Q&A with Debbie and Divya, offering insight into the creative process and the ongoing journey of this developing work.
