Stories are more than just words. They can be found in colour, texture, scent, taste, sound, music and atmosphere. Our senses awaken memories that evoke stories, and become part of how they are told. When we experience a story through the senses, it becomes something felt as well as understood, creating a deeper form of storytelling.

Sharing Stories is a multi-arts project for and with first-generation migrants, refugees, asylum seekers and their advocates. This collaboration between communities and artists explores migrant stories, narratives and reflections through a range of artistic practices.  At this sharing event you can expect an immersive and deeply human experience, inviting you to step inside stories and not simply hear them. 

Explore an installation that reimagines a bazaar and the stories it holds. Encounter a sensory landscape of home to understand what it means to belong. Connect with stories of migration through poetry, writing and recordings and listen to new musical compositions to hear them unfold. 

In partnership with Cafe Connect, HopeWorks and Beyond Detention, commissioned artists Atiya Vohra, Jasmin Lea Diermann Codd, Chanique Waithe and musicians and composers from Hear Me Out represent migrant participant stories with care, compassion and creativity.  

Estimated time to experience the full event: approx 90 minutes. This is a FREE event, but if you wish too, you can make a voluntary donation at checkout which will contribute towards BCA's work in Bedford communities with limited access to arts and cultural opportunities.

Although the event will be colourful, evocative and welcoming, it features personal stories and lived experiences from migrant communities. Some stories may include sensitive or emotionally challenging themes. You are advised to read the information boards at the event before engaging with the content or speak to venue staff.
