Bedford Players Trust is delighted to announce that The Place Bedford has received
funding from the Government’s Cultural Recovery Fund as part of the Department for
Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Here for Culture campaign.
We are incredibly proud and happy that our contribution to the cultural landscape of
Bedford has been acknowledged by Arts Council England. We are looking forward to
using the Government’s Cultural Recovery Fund to secure an accessible, viable and
exciting cultural offer to weather the storm brought about by the impact of COVID-19.
Looking forward, we intend to come out of it stronger and better equipped to meet the
needs of Bedford and its citizens.
Thanks to the funding provided, we are excited to expand our team by bringing in new
freelancers and widen our reach in the town and beyond. This will let us develop and
diversify our team. There will also be a number of improvements made to the building in
order to ensure accessibility, safety and compliance with health regulations.
Finally, after months of not being able to completely fulfil our main goal, we are looking
forward to bringing performances back to The Place. Like our audiences, we miss live
theatre and we are going to work closely with our regular community groups and
professional artists to broaden our offer for digital, outdoor and live performances so we
can say that now, more than ever, our Place is your Place.
Today’s announcement marks the beginning of an exciting new phase for The Place
Bedford – we look forward to sharing more updates over the coming days and weeks.
