Game Play returns for 2021

If you were there this year you will remember the retro games, workshops, role-play games, interactive theatre, board games, Mario kart and more!

Funded by the Arts Council England and The Foyle Foundation, our family-friendly gaming festival spectacular will run 26th – 28th March 2021; the first weekend in the Easter Holidays.

We are thrilled to announce that we will also be hosting our first commissioned pieces from theatre makers Robbie Taylor- Hunt and Melanie Frances.

Robbie and the team from Airlock are devising a game-based theatre piece for young people and their families about realising your difference, hiding your identity, and the struggle of revealing who you are. Participants will find themselves in a fantasy-dystopian world with a strict set of rules that are followed perfectly by all.

Theatre maker and game designer Melanie, of Produced Moon, will be creating a live playful experience which will feature a sequence of economic games to be played by teenagers and their parents. The games will explore money, knowledge and power, giving audiences opportunities to ‘play’ the economy as it currently exists, and explore how it might be able to work differently.
