Summer Film Season – Curious Cinema

Since late 2021, we have strived to improve the film offer in our venue. We have passionately curated seasons revolving around specific themes, exploring subjects that see little representation on screen and bring Bedford audiences the chance to revisit classics on the big screen.

Our previous Spring Film Season, exploring the subject of Arts on Screen and the Filmography of David Lean, also saw us work closely with organizations like TIBBS Dementia and the East Anglia Film Archive. This allowed us to widen our pool of films on offer and the people who have access to them.

It is with great pleasure that, today, I can reveal the next step of our film journey.

We are partnering up with The Cinema Cartography for our Summer Film Season, titled CURIOUS CINEMA

Created by Lewis Michael Bond and Luiza Liz Bond, The Cinema Cartography inspires new ways of experiencing Art and film. Their YouTube channel is host various videos breaking down various aspects of film in video essay format, promoting critical thinking and aiming to improve viewers’ relationship with Art and the world around them.

What Can You Expect From CURIOUS CINEMA?

The Cinema Cartography has curated a season of six films revolving around the theme of “curiosity”. These films all promote and provoke the feeling of intrigue and discovery in the viewer, sometimes in unexpected ways.

Alongside the screenings, The Cinema Cartography is creating a video essay talking about the picked films and how they related to each other and the theme of “curiosity”. This video will be online from next week on The Cinema Cartography’s YouTube channel.

After the screening of the final film, we will host a Q&A with The Place curatorial team and The Cinema Cartography team to discuss the season at large.

We will also bring back our The Place Presents videos. These short videos will challenge audiences to watch the picked films under a specific lens, perhaps asking you to think of a favourite movie in a different way.

Finally, we are also very excited to announce that some part of our CURIOUS CINEMA will be available for online viewing! We are partnering with the Eventive platform to bring some of the titles of the season to streaming, letting you watch them from the comfort of your home.

I would like to take this moment to thank you for your continued support of The Place Film Seasons, and I hope to see you very soon!

CURIOUS CINEMA will play across June and July. Films and screening times will be announced soon.

This event is part of Film Feels Curious, a UK-wide cinema season, supported by the National Lottery and BFI Film Audience Network. Explore all films and events at filmfeels.co.uk.
