Kickstart Blog #2 – Sheila

Hi, again and welcome back to my blog. Today I have decided to do something a little different for this month’s blog installation. Today you guys are going to get some insight into my other colleague’s roles on the Kickstarter scheme.

We are going to start the interview off with Georgia.
This is the transcript of our conversation
Hi, Georgia, How are you?
I am very well thank you and I hope you are well yourself.

What is your role?
My main role at the place is distribution but I also help with marketing and other things.

What made you want to apply for this role?
The place looked like a very creative and exciting place to work.

How have you found working here so far?
I absolutely love working at the place. It is like a big family and I always look forward to going to work.

Were you interested in theatre before applying to this role?
I regularly visited the theatre prior to working at The Place.

Has your view on theatre changed since working at The Place?
It has been interesting to see how much work goes into putting on shows/events from the theatre itself. There are a lot of people putting everything together behind the scenes which you wouldn’t expect.

What has been the most fun/interesting thing you have done/ participated in at The Place so far?
All of the shows are amazing but I particularly enjoy doing workshops with the other staff, coming up with ideas for events we can do which help the local community.

What are your plans after the Kickstart scheme at The Place?
I have nothing set in stone yet but I plan to find another job which requires skills I have gained from working at The Place.

What parts of this role do you feel you can utilise for your future plans/roles?
I have learnt many important skills from working at the Place and further developed existing skills I already had. These include, teamwork, marketing, distribution, communication and public speaking.

What is your favourite show so far that you have watched at The Place and why?
My favourite show I have watched at The Place is What She Said. This was my favourite as I loved the message of female empowerment and the performers were amazing.

Could you give us one sentence to describe The Place?
A comfortable family orientated environment.

Well thank you for that and letting me interview you.
Thank you for taking the time to interview me
This was my transcript with Aaron

Hi, Aaron, How are you?
Hi Sheila I am doing well thank you.

What is your role?
I work as a hospitality assistant and front of house for The Place Theatre, mainly working behind the bar.

What made you want to apply for this role?
I was looking for work under the job centre and was recommended for this job as a part of the Kickstart Job Scheme, I wish to one day work at a cafe as a barista and this job is decent training for me as far as hospitality and customer service goes.

How have you found working here so far?
I have been very much enjoying this job, all of the staff members have been nice to me and I have been getting good training. All of the staff have felt like a mini family to me which helps a lot with the work ethic.

Were you interested in theatre before applying to this role?
I used to be a part of Act 1 theatre group when I was at school so I actually have a short history of this place from my school days. I would say that I still enjoy acting a little bit but have not really done anything involving it since my school days since moving on to full time education and coming out of education.

Has your view on theatre changed since working at The Place?
I would say not too much but this is more because I already had knowledge of how theatre works behind the scenes. It is however nice to see the actors behind the scenes and talk with them a bit while behind the bar.

What has been the most fun/interesting thing you have done/ participated in at The Place so far?
I actually really enjoyed serving the young kids during Jack-A-Story and their parents in terms of serving them coffee and serving the kids juices and biscuits, mainly as I always enjoyed working with young people and the youth and making them smile always makes my day feel a bit better.

What are your plans after the Kickstart scheme at The Place?
As said previously, this job is helping me try to get experience to one day work at a cafe as a barista, so I am hoping that I can work towards getting a job in that field.

What parts of this role do you feel you can utilise for your future plans/roles?
I already do a lot of the coffee work here in terms of making sure the machines are clean and working, and serve a lot of customer’s coffee and tea. Apart from that I talk to the customers a lot anyway while bartending and serving alcohol, which are general customer service skills that can carry over to working in a cafe / bar.

What is your favourite show so far that you have watched at The Place and why?
Tess and the D’urbervilles was definitely my favourite show to watch because the general story was very sad and it acted out incredibly well.

Could you give us one sentence to describe The Place?
A theatre company of many forms of entertainment for all audiences.

Well thank you for that and letting me interview you.
No problem and thank you for letting me share my views.
I hope you guys enjoyed reading the interviews and got a bit of insight into what it is like to work at The Place.
